Q.

After two plus years of fear, propaganda and the way the world went all 1940s, I am finding I’ve lost my motivation, my business, my creativity, my passion. What can I do to get my joy back and remove the fear of ‘what’s next’ a virus, war, government over reach, economic collapse, control, control, more and more control of every aspect of our lives. I can’t live like that.

A.

Boom, I absolutely love this question, thank you. Oh and hey I’m sure you’re not alone in having these feelings, the world really has gone nuts over these past few years and it has impacted folks for sure. In fact, I think the turbulence has brought a lot of mental and emotional “gaps or shortfalls” that people were managing to function with (and supress) beforehand, well they’re right at the surface now. So, consequently, a lot of people have been forced to face themselves.

Now, to try and stay on track here, I’m assuming your fear is mostly coming from Covid stuff, then the war in Ukraine (which could absolutely blow up into WWIII), and this propaganda, again I’m making another assumption but I’m thinking this is referring to the misinformation war and those crackpot Q-anon-like theories. Carrrrazy!! And much like you, I’m also wondering where this will all go. I wish I had more answers here which I’m sorry I don’t.

I do have some stuff to say though. Like sure it’s a bit weird (even a bit woo woo spiritual) but I believe this turbulence is the result of a decline in communal consciousness. As in the ego sorta reigns supreme now, so this is why power, greed, selfishness, blah, blah, Gordon Gecko, or people (especially those in power) are mostly looking out for themselves and their ideals. Of course there are exceptions too, but again in my belief, another factor is that those who hate they do so with conviction. So, this often drowns out the good. Plus, we as humans tend to focus on the catastrophe or drama – which news networks know and as such feed this beast for ratings. It’s such a toxic cycle.

The next thing I want to talk about is control (which I assure you I am heading somewhere with this). Yeah, so control, if you really think about it how much do we have? Like sure, maybe we can control our immediate environment, ourselves and our own behaviours (of which in some cases we can’t even control our own bodies, exhibit a, me), only as soon as you pan out to three, seven or more people in that mix you’re already starting to get on the back foot. Then think about a community, thousands of people, you realise how small you are (yet you still have the opportunity to touch many hearts). You’ve been living like this your whole life, but as I said, it’s all coming to the surface now.

Being human, it’s very much like you’re playing the ultimate game. Some people are born with advantages, others disadvantages, still we all have the choice to connect with ourselves (and others) as deeply as possible. And it’s in this connection that our lives are defined (by self and others). It’s like that quote, “people always remember how you made them feel.”

But back to the crux of your question now – what can you do to get your joy and motivation back, even as you’ve already lost so much and the future looks bleak? Well, to get back to my earlier point of communal consciousness, truly I’d say that this is something you need to get involved with (raising vibes, heck this might even mean activism – just do it your way and do what calls to you – you’ll know). For it’s when you take action and get involved, not only will you feel less helpless but you’ll become empowered. Not with this ego bullshit though, no no no, helping people feeds your soul instead.

Now control… hmm to a point this may depend on your character or predispositions. Still, fingers crossed you’re not getting any physical symptoms of anxiety or alike (which is a whole different conversation so eek I’ll try to ignore it), nevertheless, strangely my suggestions would be pretty similar in any case. You see, a lot of the things you’ve mentioned here are beyond your control, so a lot of this is reactive (or how you react). Yet there is one pivotal proactive part and this comes down to your “search” for awareness (your knowledge), mindfulness and self-awareness too. Yep, it’s when you look within that peace and rationale can be found (which once more could be a whole new conversation).

Still, in this happy little family sorta way, if you can combine all this stuff I believe that it should lead to the joy you’re seeking, or at least it should make for a good start. It should even motivate you. Only don’t expect miracles here, this could take some work and dedication. When shifting perspectives, there’s a number of factors involved. But I do think the two most important concepts are to take action and contribute. You’ve got this.

Have fun with it hey. Maybe even get a friend to talk with about this, get some support. You could even make this your new passion in life, who knows how far you want to take this.

Hope this helps.
