27. Groundhog Day

Q.

Why does every day feel the same?

A.

So, first of all thanks for the question. This is something I can definitely relate to, especially when I go on those super fun vacations in hospital. Hooray. But before getting too into this, I just want to say that I’ll probably be using a few sweeping generalisations here (because I’m only working off seven words), and hopefully some of these will hit whereas I’m sure others won’t, so what I’m wanting to emphasise is that you should only take what resonates. Fingers crossed it will be more than less.

Anyway, Groundhog Day, it is a concept that does kinda suck but it does make for an ok-ish movie. Still, when I do think about rigmarole and routine (and I’m sure a lot of people would initially draw these same conclusions), this comes about because somebody is lacking inspiration, purpose, or that there is something missing. Blah, blah. I dunno, but for me this feels like a bit of a surface assessment, like I do believe that there’s some side-stepping that needs to be done here.

Still, yeah, you can definitely have a look at and give some thought to what inspires you, even delve deep into the whole purpose thing. OMG, there is like a bazillion fad-tastic books on these topics. Yeah, self-exploration is something that I always encourage – for at the end of the day it is you that is the prize. COOFFFEEEEE!! Whoops, sorry I got distracted.

But, yeah, maybe you could ask yourself some of life’s massive questions. Why am I here? What makes me happy? How can I give back and make a difference? How can I shake things up mentally? Were Big Ears and Humphrey B. Bear really gay?? Haha, nah don’t blow your mind too much.

Actually, as I’m listening to my heart and intuition here, something is telling me that I should mention that you don’t need to go too deep too fast here. This is not a race. Also, there’s no need to take yourself too seriously, life is a journey that should be enjoyed. Eat the piragi.

In fact, this seeing life as an adventure thing, you know I think this is a pretty important point. I mean, sure fulfilment is a goal, and sure stuff like a job and even associated menial tasks are important, but if you think about it we really do spend most of our lives on the yellow brick road (trying to find our feet or striving toward a goal). And this is the best part, this is what to get inspired by and excited about. It’s the people we meet along the way, through ups and downs, it’s your interpersonal relationships that make everything so variable. The love shared between friends (the trust, the bond) this is what makes familiarity feel different.

Now, this next part is the main event. The only thing I could compare it to… hmm… well it would be almost as cool as owning avocado sneakers. I did say almost! Still, I think it is worthwhile exploring this something missing concept. Which, again to safeguard myself behind the guise of sweeping generalisations haha, but just putting it out there, maybe you haven’t found your thing yet. It could be acting, possibly playing the trumpet, even running marathons. Heck, you could even start doing cross-fit with your grandma. Try stuff. Try everything. Only this isn’t necessarily something that’s purpose driven, rather it is fulfilment driven. The reward, the climax, that thing that makes time go away, like I use writing

And with these endeavours (tools)), honestly, It’s about getting to a point where even if days are largely the same, it just doesn’t matter. You’ve found your happy place and practicing this regularly, this is what negates the groundhog. You’ve captured your own heart.

Hope this helps.
